So this past weekend we took a Happy Family Road Trip to Altanta, Georgia! We left early on friday morning and came home around 4 on monday afternoon.
Friday: We took off around 8:30 a.m & had many fun stops along the way. We stopped at Chick-fil-a for lunch and we arrived at Cracker Barrell (conveniently next to our hotel) around 5.30 that evening. Cracker Barrel was full of fun pictures and checkers championships (I think Devon beat Cam, but I’m not sure haha) Friday night we had happy family time with the other people in our group of the same gender aka girls nights : ) The boys went to McDonalds and we went to the vending machine : ) it was better than the boys time. We got homework done and worked on verses and of course, watched “Say Yes to the Dress” then went to bed!
Saturday: We slept in and stayed in the hotel as long as the hotel would let us then we went to Fatdaddys! The best New York subs in LaGrange, Georgia! Well, they were pretty good, I’m not gonna lie. Then we headed off to Explorations in Antiquities, median age: 49. Its a pretty legit bible museum. It really helped but a scene to the bible stories we’ve been learning. After we left the museum we were on our way home and decided to stop for a super short photo shoot of a sweet green barn && the van got stuck in the mud. While SB and Erin were returning to the van they both were having trouble getting through the mud do Elijah leans over to me and whispers “i hope we aren’t stuck” or something to that effect so we both prayed that we would move but God quickly answered, “Nope!” He obviously had other plans for us. we got out and tried to push but we weren’t having much success on our own. Luckily, a nice man, who we affectionately call our “Angel”, showed up (with a truck) and pulled us out of the mud with a little force from some students via rocking the van. After we got out of the mud we were backing up to get back on the road and Cameron drove backwards into a ditch. Luckily, again, the man hadn’t left and was able to pull us out again.
this is what i think about that:
we (Christians) get stuck in the mud an awful lot. everyday actually. and God is always willing to come along side of us and pull us out. now, we have to be receptive to that, we have to make the effort to turn away from whatever mud we were in. happy story, but, so frequently, everyday actually, right after God pulls us out of one muddy mess, we back right up into another. and yet, God is still willing to reach down and pull us out. my question is, why don’t we just stay out of the mud? we so often return to our sin like a dog to it’s own vomit (Proverbs 26:11). its FILTHY. for real. we feel such desire to go back to this sin because it makes us feel better for a moment, and in the end, we are stuck in a ditch. who else is ready to turn from the mud? I am.
Saturday (con’t) – we got back to the hotel and got settled for a bit then went out to dinner, yay : ) boys went to some sports grill and girls went to Moe’s which was so yummy! Then we went to Target. ahhh, how i miss target. then we came back and ARTHUR was on tv! so exciting.
Sunday – we woke up and went to a “mega-church” called North Point. There were thousands of people in the congregation. Crazy. It was like I was at Winterfest or some other form of youth conference. It was appealing to the crowd that was there but not my cup of tea. after this we headed to a soup and sandwich shop much like Panera bread. then we headed to the hotel and chilled for a bit and not after long we were at IHOP (prayer, not pancakes). It was so awesome! That was my favorite experience this weekend. The worship was legitttt (not to mention the guys voice was banging) and the pastor brought it in terms of biblical truth. it was so sick.
Monday – We were on our way home at 6.30 am! The ride in the van was definitely an experience to say the least. lots of awkward sleeping positions and many rounds of ”guess that song on your ipod” (i beat Elijah and Tim, just not on the same day). but we made it home around 4:15 that afternoon!
